Emotionally Focused Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFCT & EFIT)

EFT is an approach that is founded upon attachment principles and research. This body of research has revealed that when we feel connected, we walk more securely as individuals and within our relationships. We’ve also learned that our relationships provide a buffer to help us navigate stressful situations that come our way.

EFT is a structured approach with more than 30 studies supporting its effectiveness. EFT is used with individuals, couples, and families. This versatile approach helps clients break patterns of how they navigate emotion both in intrapersonal (within the self) and interpersonal (within relationships) contexts.

EFT with individuals (aka EFIT) is useful for those who want to explore and improve the ways in which they process emotion. In this work, space is opened up where individuals can cultivate a secure connection with self and other. A benefit of EFIT is that is enables individuals to process past experiences in a secure and transformative manner.

EFT with couples (aka EFCT) helps couples shift their interactions with one another, so that they can repair places of wounding, draw closer to one another, and strengthen their relationship in lasting ways. EFT is approved by Postpartum Support International (PSI) in helping couples navigate concerns related to perinatal and postpartum mental health. EFT helps couples grow their ability to be accessible, responsive, and engaged with one another.
